This month I’ve been testing the “holy grail” foundation – the famous Estee Lauder Double Wear. I’m a drugstore foundation kinda gal, I don’t like to spend too much on foundation just because it’s from a high end brand, but I did always want to try this one and see what the hype is all about.
The Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation is a know classic among foundations. It’s been a best seller ever since I got into makeup and it’s still well known today. It has a fresh matte finish – not too matte, but also not too shiny. It promises oil control for 24 hours and it’s supposedly seat, heat and humidity resistant as well as transfer-proof.
I was quite pleasantly surprised and a little overwhelmed at the big selection of shades. They’re divided in Cool (C), Neutral (N) and Warm (W) undertones for easier shade matching. Here are their descriptions:
Cool (C) undertones: Bare skin has a rosy tone and burns easily in the sun.
Neutral (N) undertones: Bare skin is more even toned, not too pink or golden.
Warm (W) undertones: Bare skin has a golden or olive tone and tans easily in the sun.
I got the shade 2C2 Pale Almond, even though I wouldn’t really consider my skin has a cool undertone. I used the website Findation, where I input all my foundations and shades that I knew were perfect for me and this is the match that I got. It is a bit too dark for the winter months, but it works great for the summer when I have a bit of tan.
I first wore this foundation out for drinks with my friend. When I put it on, it blended really nicely into the skin. It didn’t dry too fast, so I could work it into my neck and temples really well. I wore it for the whole afternoon and on the way back home it started pouring down rain and I was of course riding my bike. I accidently put it to the test and see if it’s really waterproof. I must say it stayed on surprisingly well! I didn’t use a setting powder because I was in a bit of a hurry. It dried down really well and didn’t move at all, even after a rainy bike ride.
I tested this foundation for a month in different settings. The heatwave just hit our capital and it is melting hot. I’ve been wearing it for every occasion now and it really stayed on perfectly. No smudging, transfer or creasing (besides my eyelids, but every single foundation creases there). It’s truly an incredible foundation! I haven’t really been to the beach while wearing it so I could test if it withstands beach days too, as I know lots of people wear makeup there too, but I’m sure it would stay on really well. You only need a small amount for medium coverage, so it really goes a long way.
As I already mentioned, the Estee Lauder Double Wear is a high-end foundation, so the price is a bit higher as well. You can get it on the Notino website for 31,90 eur right now, which is about 30% cheaper than at our drugstores. I think it’s normally somewhere around 50 eur for 30ml, which is, I think, a normal price for high-end makeup. I really think it’s worth the price and you only need a little bit for medium coverage.
